VISIT PHILADELPHIA Wins Major Industry Award For Social Media
Entry Excelled Among 1,300 Submissions To Win An HSMAI Gold Adrian Award
VISIT PHILADELPHIA® won an esteemed Gold Adrian Award from Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International (HSMAI) for Digital Marketing Excellence. The awards were announced at a gala in New York City last night, February 16.
VISIT PHILADELPHIA earned the win for its “Surprise and Delight” program. Through the #visitphilly hashtag, geotags and keywords, the destination marketing organization finds people who are documenting their Philly trip, getting ready to visit or missing the city, and then surprises—and delights—them with a Philly treat to inspire them to do more during their stays or to invite them to come back. The package may contain tickets, snacks and Philly souvenirs. In 2015, VISIT PHILADELPHIA engaged with 40 followers and social-savvy visitors through the “Surprise and Delight” program.

In the last 10 years, VISIT PHILADELPHIA has won 22 Adrian Awards for its efforts in digital marketing, advertising and public relations.
Now in its 59th year, HSMAI’s Adrian Awards competition recognizes leading organizations in tourism, travel and hospitality. This year’s contest garnered more than 1,300 entries from around the world, with entries judged by executives from all sectors of the industry.
VISIT PHILADELPHIA® makes Philadelphia and The Countryside® a premier destination through marketing and image building that increases the number of visitors, the number of nights they stay and the number of things they do in the five-county area.
On Greater Philadelphia’s official visitor website and blog, visitphilly.com and uwishunu.com, visitors can explore things to do, upcoming events, themed itineraries and hotel packages. Compelling photography and videos, interactive maps and detailed visitor information make the sites effective trip-planning tools. Along with Visit Philly social media channels, the online platforms communicate directly with consumers. VISIT PHILADELPHIA Reports Record Visitation To Region In 2015
VISIT PHILADELPHIA® today announced the sixth straight year for record visitation to the five-county region: 41 million domestic visitors in 2015, with 88% here for a leisure purpose. The year also brought record highs for tourism’s economic impact, which came in at $10.7 billion for the year.

At today’s VISIT PHILADELPHIA® New Year’s Breakfast, the destination marketing organization announced a brand-new design for uwishunu.com, the what’s-happening blog of visitphilly.com. The popular site received 6.2 million visits in 2015.

Center City Philadelphia hotels are enjoying a successful 2015 so far, with occupancy for the first six months beating last year—76.2% in 2015 vs. 75.2% in 2014 (January through June). All three major market segments (leisure, group, commercial) increased in the first half of the year. Leisure showed the most growth.

This summer brought in big business for Center City, Philadelphia hotels, with overall occupancy topping out at 79.5%—the highest it has been since 2008. And weekend occupancy, a heavy travel time for leisure visitors, continues to soar. Hotels enjoyed record occupancy on Saturday nights (90.9%), and Friday occupancy (82.6%) matched last summer, showing that travelers are eager to get their weekends started.
