Video Alert: Take A Look Inside Philadelphia's Annual New Year's Day Mummers Parade

Six Short Videos Focus On The Parade’s People, Costumes, Choreography & Sets

On January 1, 2014, the Mummers will make their 114th march up Broad Street in the city’s annual New Year’s Day parade, a spectacle that’s in full view in Visit Philadelphia’s Behind the Sequins: Showtime for the Philadelphia Mummers video series. Six free-standing videos tell the Mummers’ story through the people who make the costumes, choreograph the routines, build the sets and march in the parade.

There are two components to the day-long parade, much of which is documented in the 90-second videos: a festive march up Broad Street that begins in South Philadelphia and ends at City Hall for four of the Mummers divisions (Comics, Wench Brigades, Fancies and String Bands) and two indoor performances (at 12:00 noon and at 5:00 p.m.) at the Pennsylvania Convention Center for the Fancy Brigades, who put on two elaborate Broadway-style performances for ticket holders.

Tickets for parade bleacher seating at City Hall (15th & Market Streets) and for the Fancy Brigade Finales are available at the Independence Visitor Center at 6th and Market Streets, (215) 965-7676. The Visit Philly Overnight Hotel Package™ and other packages are available at visitphilly.com/hotel-packages.

Consumers can watch the behind-the-scenes video series at visitphilly.com/mummers, and press can download the videos at visitphilly.isebox.net.
