The Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation Closes Out 2011 With 15 Web Awards & Record Web Traffic

visitphilly.com, uwishunu.com & philly360.com Bring Home Local, National & International Accolades

The Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation (GPTMC) closed out 2011 on a winning note, thanks to 15 highly esteemed award recognitions honoring its website, blog and Philly 360°® tourism marketing campaign. Content enhancements to visitphilly.com (official visitor website), uwishunu.com (insider blog focused on what’s happening) and philly360.com (African-American events and goings-on) proved critical to the success of the sites, as was the creation of a mobile version of visitphilly.com. What’s more, visitphilly.com and uwishunu.com witnessed a record-breaking year in Web traffic, with 6.5 million visits, up 51% from 2010.

“It’s great to win recognition for our work, but the real winners here are our visitors, who benefit from top-notch websites and blogs that give them the information they need in a compelling and concise fashion,” said Meryl Levitz, president and CEO, GPTMC.

International Academy of the Visual Arts:
The International Academy of the Visual Arts (IAVA), an exclusive group of visual arts professionals, judge several award competitions each year and gave nine major nods to visitphilly.com:

1.-2. The Davey Awards honor creative smaller firms for innovative work on the Web, in online advertising and marketing and in design/print. The group bestowed two gold awards on

for its achievement as an outstanding tourism website and for its superior homepage.
3.-6. With more than 9,000 entries this past year, the Communicator Awards recognize outstanding contributions to Web marketing, videos, commercials and audio. The Communicator Award of Excellence and Award of Distinction are its top two prizes, and GPTMC won four of these—for

7-9. IAVA’s W3 Awards is an international competition focusing on the best in Web design, strategy and implementation from companies both large and small. They honored

10.-11. The Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International (HSMAI), a global organization of 7,000 sales and marketing professionals representing all segments of the hospitality industry in 35 countries, honored philly360.com with a Gold Adrian Award in the Integrated Marketing Campaign for Consumers – Digital Marketing Campaign category and recognized uwishunu.com with a Silver Adrian Award for Digital Marketing in the Blog category.
12.-13. Travel Weekly’s Magellan Awards recognize the best in all things travel and are judged by top leaders in the industry. The publication presented visitphilly.com with a Gold Magellan Award for Destination Marketing – Website and uwishunu.com with a Gold Magellan Award for Online Travel Services – Blog.
14. Each year, the Web Marketing Association conducts an international WebAward competition that recognizes best-of practices in 96 industries. This year, visitphilly.com took home a Non-Profit Standard of Excellence award in the travel category.

Event Creates Community Beyond The Blogosphere

Nearly 250 professional and amateur social media enthusiasts from the Greater Philadelphia area and around the nation came together in Center City from July 12-13 for the inaugural BlogPhiladelphia conference. The free event, which took place at the Radisson Plaza-Warwick Hotel Philadelphia, generated rounds of discussion and fostered creative content contributions among Philadelphia’s social media innovators and educated beginners. Video podcasts—also known as vodcasts—are the newest tool visitors can use to plan their trip to Philadelphia, and they’re now available on the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation’s (GPTMC) gophila.com and uwishunu.com.
