Only in Philly: A Royal AAA Hotel Package

New Hotel Package Combines King Tut And The Royal Ballet In Philadelphia

To celebrate two only in Philadelphia events this summer—an exclusive Royal Ballet engagement at The Mann Center for the Performing Arts and the Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs exhibition at The Franklin Institute—the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation (GPTMC) teamed up with the American Automobile Association (AAA) to create a special hotel package for visitors who want to see both blockbuster shows.

The Tut and Tutus hotel offer includes one night at the Sofitel Philadelphia or the Holiday Inn Historic District, two King Tut tickets and two tickets to Romeo and Juliet or Swan Lake. It is one of seven customized packages created by GPTMC and AAA. Other options include Gourmet Philadelphia (two options), Shop Philadelphia, Philadelphia Heritage and Art (two options) and Philadelphia’s Great American Getaway. All packages can be booked on, or through a AAA retail agent.

London’s famed Royal Ballet will perform in July at The Mann Center for the Performing Arts, the only East Coast stop on their summer tour. The troop will present Romeo and Juliet on July 10 and 11, followed by Swan Lake on July 12 and 13. The Royal Ballet has not appeared in Philadelphia since 1965 when Rudolf Nureyev danced with the troop. The other hot ticket this summer is for Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs (presented by Mellon Financial Corporation), making its final North American stop at The Franklin Institute. On view through September 30, the exhibition showcases more than 130 artifacts belonging to the Boy King and his relatives.

One Hundredth Birthday For Benjamin Franklin Parkway Will Be Big

Centennial Brings 14 Months Of Exhibitions & Events Inside & Out

Philadelphia’s cultural powerhouse and preeminent boulevard, the Benjamin Franklin Parkway began its 100th birthday celebration September 8, 2017. Parkway 100 is the city’s 14-month celebration taking place both inside the venerable institutions that line the thoroughfare and outside among its fountains, gardens and public art. It ends November 16, 2018.

The diagonal Benjamin Franklin Parkway stretches one mile from near City Hall to the Philadelphia Museum of Art at the edge of Fairmount Park. Planner Paul Philippe Cret and designer Jacques Gréber modeled the thoroughfare after the Champs-Élysées of their native country. After a long, drawn-out planning and construction
