Oh Canada! Society of American Travel Writers Head to Philadelphia for Summer Meeting

GPTMC Showcases The Region To Influential Canadian Media

Nearly 50 writers, photographers and travel professionals from all across Canada will convene in Philadelphia this summer for a meeting of the Society of American Travel Writers’ (SATW) Canadian Chapter, July 19-23, 2007.

Hosted by the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation (GPTMC), the SATW meeting will include professional development sessions, along with themed tours showcasing the region’s best historic sites, cultural attractions, restaurants, shops and nightlife. GPTMC has worked with the Canadian chapter of SATW since late 2006 to develop the meeting tours, as well as pre- and post-conference trips to other areas of Pennsylvania.

“Destinations around the world compete to host SATW meetings because they bring influential media to the area,” said Meryl Levitz, president and CEO of GPTMC. “Canada is a particularly important market for us with visitation to Philadelphia up 14% over the last three years, according to Statistics Canada.”

The annual SATW Canadian Chapter meeting in July will bring in dozens of travel writers and photographers representing newspapers, magazines, book publishers, news programs and new media outlets from all over the country. Major sponsors for this year’s meeting are Air Canada and the Canadian Consulate of Philadelphia. GPTMC hosted the SATW Editors Council and Western Chapter in 2006 and the Atlantic/Caribbean and Central States chapters in 2003.

The Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation (GPTMC) makes Philadelphia and The Countryside™ a premier destination through marketing and image building that increases business and promotes the region’s vitality.
