Dolley Todd House

Dolley Todd House

Before she became the First Lady of the United States, Dolley Todd shared this home at the northeast corner of 4th and Walnut Streets with her first husband, John Todd, from 1791-1793. After John's death, she married James Madison, who went on to become the Secretary of State and President of the United States. Todd Madison was known for her hosting and conversation prowess not only during her husband's administration, but also during that of family friend Thomas Jefferson.
