“Sing Because it is Heard,” Mural Arts Philadelphia

Artist Betsy Casañas’ mural “Sing Because it is Heard” is a collaboration between Mural Arts Philadelphia, the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Mantua Civic Association. Students at Freire Charter School and members of the local community assisted Casañasin painting the mural, whichfeatures vibrant images drawn from traditional Mexican muralismandblossoms with tulips, a flower that holds significance for the neighboring Mantua community.The mural covers the Spring Garden Street Bridge, which spans from the Philadelphia Museum of Art to the entrance of the Mantua neighborhood in West Philadelphia.
