Amalgam Comics & Coffeehouse

Ariell R. Johnson’s buzz-worthy Frankford Avenue hangout cleverly combines comic books and coffee. The welcoming spot hosts book signings, gamer gatherings, guest speakers, kids’ events—and sells chocolate-peanut butter cupcakes, inspired by Johnson’s favorite heroine, the X-Men’s Storm. Johnson is the first African-American woman to open and own a comic books shop on the East Coast.
