Philadelphia and the Countryside - Press Room

Garden Center, Fishtown

Garden Center, Fishtown

Established by the New Kensington Community Development Corporation (NKCDC), the Garden Center is an example of the rebuilding of Philadelphia’s Fishtown neighborhood, named for its former role as the center of the shad fishing industry on the Delaware River. Members of the community joined with NKCDC to transform a trash-strewn lot into the plant-filled oasis. The Garden Center hosts gardening/horticultural workshops and seasonal festivals.
